After Completing his primary education he joined Victoria College in Palghat where is subsequently graduated with a bachelors degree in chemistry. He later embraced the profession of Teaching. He went on to become a writer, director and editor.MT's best works are his short stories. He is considered as one of the best short story writers in Indian literature. Many of his short stories were made into feature films with his own screen play. MT himself has directed many of them. Some of his famous short stories are: Vanaprastham OppolOlavum Theeravum Kuttyedathy Iruttinte Aatmavu Akkaldaamayil Pookkal Vidarumbol Ninte Ormakku MT's screen plays are considered superior for it's techniques, realism, story telling and dialogues. Some of his famous films are: Nirmalyam Kadavu Oru vadakkan veera gaadha Vaisali Sadhayam Parinayam Sukritham Perundachan Panjagni Nagakshathathangal Oppol Randamoozham, his masterpiece novel, is one of the finest literary works in malayalam. It is the story of Mahabharatha with Bheeman as the central character. Some of his popular novels are: Randaam Oozhzam Manjue Naalu Kettu Kaalam Asuravitthu Vilaapam MT has won many awards and laurels including Kerala Sahitya Acadamy Award, Kendra Sahithya Acadamy Award, Vayalar Award, Odakkuzhal Award,and the prestigious Jnanapeedom award in 1996.
